Posh Gala raises Money for the American Cancer Society.
More than 300 elegantly attired guests socialized at the Reach for the Stars Gala held August 26 at the Dixie Center.
Attendees lined the red carpet while flashbulbs popped at the arrival of several celebrity impersonators.
Silent Auction items lined the reception hall and the dining room was transformed into St. George’s version of Rodeo Drive with tables individually decorated to showcase the glamour of Hollywood’s best films.
“Nebula,” a majestic wind sculpture from Whitaker Studio, and a princess-cut, 3-stone 1/2-carat diamond necklace from McArthur Jewelers were among the items that garnered top dollars during the Live Auction.
Emcees Cindy Olson and Rob Bromley delighted attendees with witty fun and flair, and over 20 cancer survivors stood and shared the limelight, receiving jubilant applause.
Strolling down the Hollywood Walk of Faith were Gala committee members Linda Baker (chairwoman), Kelsey Blackwell, David Ellis, Jackie Gaitin, Chris Harvey, Robert Hawkes, Deb Holien, Kim Hugentobler, Lynn Jaeb, Pam Layton, Carol Leavitt, Bonnie Luke, Jackie Mannion, Jane Oliver, Cindy Olson, Charlene Revoir, Mary Ronnow, Karen Vint and Doug Wells.
STEAMING CORN AND HOT MUSIC USHER IN AUTUMN
The pleasant aroma of freshly harvested and slowly cooked sweet corn bathed in salt and butter enticed thousands of hungry participants and helped line the streets for the 16th Annual Corn Festival on August 26 in Enterprise.
Attendees were treated to music from various bands, crafts made by skilled local artisans, games for children and great food.
Festival Chairman Lavon Randall and committee members produced a wonderfully traditional and diverse cultural event that provided a harvest adventure for everyone.
ART THAT INSPIRES
The Dixie State College Sears Art Museum Gallery opened the “The Masters’ Brush” exhibit with a public reception on Friday, September 8. More than 200 art enthusiasts attended the grand opening and gazed at the masterpieces that lined the wall of the Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center.
Curator Kathy Cieslewicz, envisioned an exhibit that would combine “illustrations, fine artistic genius and a diversity of talent.”
Original illustrated artwork by Greg Olsen, Ben Sowards, Liz Swindle, Del Parson, Glen Hopkinson, Michael Malm, Sam Lawlor, Kathleen Peterson, Dan Lewis, David Koch, Greg Thorkleson, Joseph Alleman, Julie Rogers, Leon Parson, Glen Edwards, Barbara Edwards, A.D. Shaw and G. Bjorn Thorkelson was featured.
Piano music by Dr. Nancy Allred filled the room with musical merriment while guests nibbled on delicious desserts.
“The Masters’ Brush” will be on exhibit through November 17.
COYOTE GULCH HOWLS
Kayenta Art Village kicked off its “Saturday Night’s All Right” art, music and fun festivities on Saturday, September 9. More than 200 devotees, ages 2 to 92, donned their dancing shoes and fulfilled their love of art.
Entertainment by Blues Barbers-The Jerone Wedig Trio, coupled with beverages and treats from Zetava Gardens and Coyote Hungary café, set the tone for a sophisticated chic event on a spectacularly beautiful moonlit autumn night.
Art lovers trekked through Juniper Sky Fine Art Gallery, Datura Gallery, Earth & Light Galley, and Blue Raven Studio. “Saturday Night’s All Right” events will continue through October, culminating with a Halloween/Costume party on October 28. The events are free and open to the public.
MOVERS AND SHAKERS ON THE GO
Southern Utah residents traveled to Salt Lake City to attend a luncheon honoring President George Bush. The event was sponsored by the Hatch Election Committee.
The 9th Annual In-Flight Refueling Association Conference on September 5 and 6 in Las Vegas was chaired by St. George residents Wilma and Dale Courtney.
The Sevy Family/Wooden Tantrum performed traditional Irish jigs and violinist Chase Nichter of Southern Utah provided the musical entertainment.
